Minute by minute

What happens in your first 30 minutes

Every lesson follows the same shape. Here is how the first one usually goes for a beginner.

  1. Minutes 0–3Your instructor meets you on deck, asks what brought you here and how you feel about the water, then you walk into the shallow end on the steps.
  2. Minutes 3–8Getting used to the water: standing, walking, breathing out with your face in, at your pace.
  3. Minutes 8–25Your first skill, usually floating and standing back up on your own, with the instructor in the water and within arm’s reach.
  4. Minutes 25–30A last run at the skill, then a short recap on deck: what you did today, what is next, and your target for the season.

After the first lesson, each week starts with a warm-up on last week’s skill, then the next skill, then a short recap. See adult swimming lessons in Mississauga for the full program.

I am an adult and can’t swim at all. Is that OK?

Yes. Many of our adult students are beginners, and some are nervous in the water. You start on the steps in the shallow end (3 ft 4 in), the instructor stays within arm’s reach, and nothing happens before you are ready. Adults are never paired with children.

What should I bring to my first swim lesson?

Your swimsuit, and goggles if you have a pair. Towels are free, there are change rooms and showers beside the pool, and parking is free. Arrival: 5100 Satellite Dr (hotel) · free parking · main lobby entrance · pool on the ground floor.

How much are adult beginner swim lessons in Mississauga?

$39.99 + HST per 30-minute semi-private lesson (1 instructor, 2 adults) or $64.99 + HST private (just you; private times are open Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:00 or 6:00 PM). One 8-week season at 1 lesson per week is $319.92 + HST semi-private. You pay for your first lesson only when you book, and there are no registration fees.

How long does it take an adult to learn to swim?

Our goal for adults is 8 to 16 lessons. Come to every lesson of the season (or catch up any you miss with a catch-up session), and if you can’t swim on your own for 20 to 30 metres and tread water for 20 seconds to 1 minute by the end of it, your next season is free.
